About this course
WHMIS aligns Canada with the Globally Harmonized System. This program is taught against the amended Hazardous Products Regulations, whose supplier transition period ended on 14 December 2025, and covers the hazard classes and pictograms, supplier and workplace labels, and the sixteen-section safety data sheet, with worked examples from your own inventory where you supply them.

Frequently asked questions
How often should WHMIS training be refreshed?
Employers are responsible for making sure worker knowledge stays current, and a periodic refresh is common practice. Any expiry or refresher terms attached to the certificate itself are set by the provider who issues it, and we confirm those with you when the session is booked.
Is it still called WHMIS 2015?
No. “WHMIS 2015” named the version of the Hazardous Products Regulations that took effect that year. Those regulations were amended on 15 December 2022 to align with the 7th revised edition of the Globally Harmonized System, and suppliers had until 14 December 2025 to comply. Since that date the system is referred to simply as WHMIS, and the pre-2022 rules are described as the former regulations. The training itself is unchanged in purpose — the amendments added a Chemicals Under Pressure hazard class, renamed Flammable Aerosols to Aerosols, added a combustible dust hazard statement and expanded section 9 of the safety data sheet. Our course is taught against the amended regulations.
What is the difference between the former WHMIS and WHMIS today?
The original 1988 system used its own hazard symbols and material safety data sheets. The move to the Globally Harmonized System replaced those with GHS pictograms and standardised 16-section safety data sheets, and the 2022 amendments brought Canada in line with the 7th revised edition of GHS.
Do supervisors need WHMIS training as well as workers?
Yes. Supervisors need WHMIS competency to direct work safely and to meet their due-diligence obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
